Lucas County Prosecutor out-of-line for using public funds to host political press conference
On October 11th 2018 Lucas County Prosecutor Julia Bates held a press conference flanked by area law enforcement officials where she explained why they believe that Issue One (which would lessen sentences for drug offenses) is a bad idea. Their primary complaint being that without the threat of being able to lock people up in cages they wouldn’t be taken seriously, and non-violent drug offenders would “get off too easily”. Nevermind the ridiculous assertion that the only way to help drug offenders is to lock them up in prison, why are they using taxpayer funds to give a press conference
Toledo City Administration is wrong on lunch time parking meters
The City of Toledo is considering eliminating free lunch time parking downtown. Currently parking is free downtown from 11AM to 2PM. The city administration commissioned a traffic study by a company who designs and builds parking structures which is an obvious conflict of interest. Of course people who are in the business of designing and building paid parking facilities will advocate against free parking. Secondly, we are already paying for the streets and by extension the parking spaces through our tax dollars. This would be yet another tax on something that we are already being taxed to pay for. Something
Toledo Man Found Guilty Of Shooting Police Officer During No Knock Raid
Lucas County Common Pleas Judge James Bates sentenced Jamaine Hill to 47 years in prison for shooting a police officer during a no knock raid. James who is in a wheel chair thought that his house was being broken into so he shot through the door hitting a Toledo police officer. This is yet another case of the dual justice system whereby citizens are expected to immediately recognize that someone is a police officer even when they can’t see them and react accordingly, meanwhile police can commit all kinds of atrocities as long as they claim to have felt threatened.
Toledo Police and City Administration Are Wrong on Red Light Cameras
The Toledo Police department in conjunction with the City of Toledo are going against the will of the people by continuing to use the 27 red light cameras dotted around the city. It’s quite clear that the citizens of Toledo don’t want them, not to mention the Ohio State legislature. How can the citizenry support the police and city government if their actions directly contradict the will of the people that they are supposed to represent? There is no proof that red light cameras prevent accidents or reduce injuries. Red light cameras only serve as another tax on the already
An analysis of the Monroe St Carryout Shooting
On Wednesday December 6th 2017 two Toledo Police Detectives (Norman Cairl & Duane Poole) from the “Special Intelligence Group” were involved in a shootout between three suspects (Richard Morris, Jayvon Wynne, and Phillip Overton). While Toledo Police Cheif Geroge Kral was more than happy to hold a news conference gloating about how well he thought the officers involved handled the situation, I beg to differ. The three suspects were well known to the detectives, in fact the detectives were performing a surveillance operation on the suspects during the time of the arrest. The suspects were known to be dangerous and
Toledo police have forgotten who they work for
During a news conference on Thursday December 7th 2017 to discuss a shootout between two Toledo Police detectives from TPD’s Special Intelligence Group and three suspects, Toledo Police Chief George Kral said: “Don’t bring guns on my street, Don’t shoot firearms in my city, don’t shoot citizens that I have sworn to protect, and certainly do no shot at any of my officers” While I can appreciate the chiefs machismo, I find it quite telling that he thinks that the streets of Toledo and the city as a whole belong to him. This speaks to a larger problem where law enforcement
