Review: Yama Japan Express Sushi & Hibachi
Yama Japan Sushi & Hibachi is an unassuming hidden gem that is a great lunch time spot. Yama Japan appears to be family owned and operated. The food is fast, fresh, and delicious. I am a personally a fan of the Sashimi regular (pictured above) the quality, cut, and freshness are always excellent. Yama has a full lunchtime menue with many different options ranging from Hibachi to Sushi Rolls. Yama Japan is conveniently located near Central and Secor close to the University of of Toledo campus and many different shops and restaurants. Yama Japan is very quick, I am usually
Review: Red Crab Juicy Seafood
Red Crab Juicy Seafood is a great new addition to the Toledo seafood scene. Red Crab Juicy Seafood is a Cajun inspired restaurant featuring an extensive fresh crab, shrimp, and mollusk menu. I decided to try to the Sunday special 1 Lobster tail, 1/2 lb. shrimp, 1/2 lb snow crab and a fried shrimp basket. I elected for the pickup option. When I arrived no one greeted me though several staff were bouncing around. It took several minutes for someone to ask if I was waiting on an order. Despite the uninspiring customer service experience the food was very good.
Sakura Japanese Steak House
Sakura is one of my top 3 favorite Sushi restaurants in Toledo. They offer a wide selection of Sushi, Sashimi, and several traditional hibachi grills with chefs who perform various theatrics while preparing the food. The prices are reasonable and the food is generally very good. Sakura has a few smaller locations called Sakura Express these express restaurants have a smaller menu and don’t offer the same Sushi selection as the original Sakura. However, the food is still very good and it can be a great lunch time treat. Same quality food, less formal, faster, and a bit cheaper.
Review: Whole Foods Toledo
Whole Foods can be a great spot to stop in for lunch, they have a nice sushi selection, salad bar, hot bar, bakery items, and a plethora of bottled drinks to try. This location is a bit smaller than most at a relatively small 30,000 sq ft. The staff are generally helpful and knowledgeable. However, they don’t offer as many samples or as wide of a selection as the larger stores. While Foods opened its doors on August 7th, 2019 more than two years after it was first announced. Whole foods is located at 3420 Secor Rd, Toledo, OH 43606.
Review: Kyoto Ka Sushi Bar
Kyoto Ka (300 Madison Ave, Toledo, OH 43604) is one of my favorite lunch time spots. If you’re a fan of Nigiri or Shashimi they have a great Sushi Combination ($13.95) and Sashimi Combination ($15.95). Soup and salad are included and you can choose between a Tuna roll or a California roll. The atmosphere is upscale and classy. Most of the clientele during the lunch hour are from the downtown business crowd. The waitstaff are attentive, and the food is made with care and attention to detail. The sushi is fresh and proportioned well. This is by far my favorite
Review: Original Sub Shop & Deli
The Original Sub Shop (402 Broadway St, Toledo, OH 43604) claims to be the first and oldest sub shop in Toledo. It was founded in 1979 By Jackie and Sarkis David and was purchased by the current owner in 2015. While I really wanted to like this place there a few issues that prevent me from going back. The building is old and poorly insulated, during the winter it is uncomfortably cold inside. The tables and chairs look to be about as old as the building and they aren’t very accommodating for large groups or lunch meetings. The other issue
